At A Crossroads: Pathways To A Net Zero Future

27th June 2024
Venue: The Conduit, 6 Langley Street, London WC2H 9JA

Five years ago, on 27th June 2019, the UK became the first G7 country to make the commitment of signing net zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050 into law.

Since then, 93% of global GDP has committed to a net zero target, with countries also pledging to treble renewable energy and halve their emissions by 2030. In the UK, further commitments have been made to create a net zero grid by 2035.

Five years on, we are now at a crossroads: with an ever greater need to translate ambition into action, there are just five years until the UK is to meet its National Determined Contribution of 68% emissions reduction, five years from a Labour commitment to a net zero grid, and ten years from a current commitment to decarbonise the UK power supply by 2035. The decisions that are taken this year, by whoever forms the next government, will decide the future direction of net zero in the UK.

The ‘At A Crossroads’ report looks at what has been achieved in the past five years to deliver greater clean energy for the UK, how far we have come, and how far we still need to go to meet our net zero commitments. It sets out what will be needed to deliver on the commitments made by both the current government and other parties, identifies what barriers need to be overcome to meet these goals, and highlights the opportunities that can be unlocked by committing to a certain future for the UK power sector.

‘At A Crossroads’ is the product of eleven roundtable engagement sessions of the Mission Zero Coalition and builds on the recommendations of the Net Zero Review, Mission Zero, that set out four missions for grid and infrastructure, wind, solar and nuclear power.

Join us for the launch of our first report from this Network. The breakfast and panel discussion with the authors will provide a high level, overarching vision for the future energy mix, combined with delivery recommendations.  Speakers will also identify the solutions that each of the different generation types and their markets require, aligned with the four relevant missions in the Mission Review which this Network encompasses – Nuclear, Grid, Solar and Wind.   Attendees will be the first to be offered the download of the report for free.

Numbers are limited.  To register your interest in attending, please email your name, job title, and organisation to
